Tire/Wheel Mounting Difficulties

Having trouble getting your tires to bead up or stay on the rim? Since we get calls from time to time from some of you with this problem, we’d like to bring you up to date on what the problem could be and what to do about it. First of all you’ll need to take a couple of minutes to go over our recommended procedure in the Tech Shop on this site for mounting and balancing tires the proper way. This always helps a lot, because a good many of the problems start here due to improper mounting. Also remember that some of these “home brews” you use for getting tires that are difficult to bead up on the rim also let the tire slip back off the bead easy as well. Things like W-D40, motor oil, grease, and other lubricants never dry out and that causes the bead to want to move around and possibly dismount. We know that many of you have used these lubricants in the past, but in certain situations they just don’t work and eventually you’ll have a problem. Check the site to see what we recommend. If you have followed these recommendations and you are still having a problem there is a possibility that it could be your wheel(s).

In the last year or so we have noticed an increase in the number of complaints in regards to the excessive pressure needed in getting tires to mount up or with tires coming off the bead. We have found that quite a few of the “spun” one piece wheels out there have bead lock and/or bead seat diameters that are out tolerance and fluctuate quite a bit! That is why some wheels take more or less air pressure to bead up than others, or also it is why sometimes a tire will bead up on one side and not the other.  If you are having difficulty with this, we suggest you contact your wheel manufacturer for the proper seating dimensions and then check and see if the wheels you have are correct. One thing you always need to keep in mind is that current Karting tires are not designed to be run on the wide rims many of you prefer to run now days, so it really becomes very important that you use the manufacturers recommended mounting procedures and wheels that are in “spec” and in good condition so things go together as easy as possible. FYI. The Burris one piece wheels are made to very exacting tolerances, but if you feel you might be having a problem that is wheel related e-mail us at info@burrisracing.com and state what the trouble is and we’ll be glad to get back with you.
